The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, exports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Russia represented the main exporting country with an export of about X cubic meters, which accounted for 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X cubic meters), constituting a 32% share of total exports.

At the same time, Belarus (+18.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +18.7% from 2012-2021. Imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates skyrocketed to X cubic meters in 2021, increasing by 63% against 2020. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 99%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

Imports into Belarus increased at an average annual rate of +26.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+228.0%), Armenia (+67.8%), Moldova (+33.0%) and Kazakhstan (+18.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +228.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+15 p.p.), Moldova (+11 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+6.4 p.p.) and Armenia (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-3.1 p.p.) and Russia (-32.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates importing markets in the CIS were Belarus ($X), Moldova ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together comprising 73% of total imports. Russia, Armenia and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +58.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, falling by -26.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 32%. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per cubic meter), while Uzbekistan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
