In 2021, Uzbekistan (X tons), distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the major exporters of woven fabrics of cotton, together constituting 97% of total exports. Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest cotton fabric supplier in the CIS, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan stood at +25.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+3.0% per year) and Belarus (+1.8% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of woven fabrics of cotton in the CIS surged to X tons, rising by 20% compared with 2020. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cotton fabric imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of woven fabrics of cotton, committing 57% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (13%) and Kyrgyzstan (7.8%). Armenia (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Armenia (+12.4%), Belarus (+11.8%), Kazakhstan (+7.5%) and Moldova (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tajikistan (-7.2%) and Kyrgyzstan (-16.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+22 p.p.), Belarus (+7.8 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+6.2 p.p.) and Armenia (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Tajikistan (-2.4 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (-36 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported woven fabrics of cotton in the CIS, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +4.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+9.7% per year) and Belarus (+4.7% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible setback.
