Antisera Market Size in Colombia

The Colombian antisera market rose notably to $X in 2021, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Exports from Colombia

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of antisera and other blood fractions increased by 134% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports recorded resilient growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, antisera exports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 188% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

France (X tons) was the main destination for antisera exports from Colombia, with a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, antisera exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Paraguay (X tons), sevenfold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to France totaled +6.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (+185.4% per year) and Belgium (+237.6% per year).

In value terms, Paraguay ($X), France ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for antisera exported from Colombia worldwide, together comprising 71% of total exports.

In 2021, the average antisera export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -51.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 128%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of antisera and other blood fractions decreased by -1.6% to X tons in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +69.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of antisera imports to Colombia, together accounting for 49% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +38.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest antisera suppliers to Colombia were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and Switzerland ($X), with a combined 56% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Ireland, Italy, South Korea, France, Spain, China, the UK, Argentina and Bolivia, which together accounted for a further 29%.

The average antisera import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (+76.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
