The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X units) was the main destination for glass bottle, jar and container exports from Colombia, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, glass bottle, jar and container exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Dominican Republic (X units), fivefold. Ecuador (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States totaled -8.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Dominican Republic (-23.8% per year) and Ecuador (-13.7% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for bottles, jars and other containers of glass exports from Colombia, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Dominican Republic ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Ecuador, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to -3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Dominican Republic (-17.1% per year) and Ecuador (-9.6% per year).

As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Mexico (X units), China (X units) and Costa Rica (X units) were the main suppliers of glass bottle, jar and container imports to Colombia, together accounting for 51% of total imports. Peru, Venezuela, Vietnam, Guatemala, Chile, India and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
