In 2021, supplies from abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) decreased by -15.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 115% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bridge imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest bridge supplier to Colombia, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, bridge imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), fivefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to +587.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-4.8% per year) and China (-3.1% per year).
