Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a notable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 308%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Honduras (X tons) was the main destination for chlorates, bromates and iodates exports from Colombia, with a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports to Honduras exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Peru (X tons), threefold. Ecuador (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Honduras amounted to -5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (+31.9% per year) and Ecuador (+51.9% per year).

In value terms, Ecuador ($X), Guatemala ($X) and Peru ($X) were the largest markets for chlorates, bromates and iodates exported from Colombia worldwide, with a combined 88% share of total exports.

Ecuador, with a CAGR of +69.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average chlorates, bromates and iodates export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -16.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 76%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Honduras ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 43%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates supplier to Colombia, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Brazil (X tons), with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +9.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+73.2% per year) and Brazil (+6.2% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates to Colombia, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States totaled +56.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+28.0% per year) and China (+12.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average chlorates, bromates and iodates import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -17.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
