Exports from Colombia

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of pipes and other articles of cement increased by 12% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cement pipe exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 88%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Chile (X tons) was the main destination for cement pipe exports from Colombia, with a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, cement pipe exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Chile totaled +21.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+8.2% per year) and Panama (-6.0% per year).

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the key foreign market for pipes and other articles of cement exports from Colombia, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Chile totaled +40.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+25.0% per year) and Panama (-9.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cement pipe export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 102% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Colombia

Cement pipe imports into Colombia fell to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -3.6% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 231% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cement pipe imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 299% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest cement pipe supplier to Colombia, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, cement pipe imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X tons), with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled -8.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+1.6% per year) and Vietnam (+83.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pipes and other articles of cement to Colombia, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to -9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-2.9% per year) and Vietnam (+92.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average cement pipe import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 28%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
