In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of polycarbonates (in primary forms), when their volume decreased by -15.1% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 338% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, polycarbonate exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 272%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +34.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, polycarbonate imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +27.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

South Korea (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of polycarbonate imports to Colombia, together accounting for 58% of total imports. China, Taiwan (Chinese), the United States, Saudi Arabia and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +53.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average polycarbonate import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -16.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
