Recovered Paper Market Size in Colombia

Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, recovered paper exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 165%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) was the main destination for recovered paper exports from Colombia, accounting for a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, recovered paper exports to Trinidad and Tobago exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), fourfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Trinidad and Tobago amounted to +16.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (-14.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+34.1% per year).

In value terms, Trinidad and Tobago ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for recovered paper exports from Colombia, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Ecuador, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Trinidad and Tobago amounted to +18.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+36.8% per year) and Ecuador (-9.7% per year).

In 2022, the average recovered paper export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 29%. In 2022, imports of recovered paper into Colombia dropped to X tons, shrinking by -13.2% compared with 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 52%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, recovered paper imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of recovered paper to Colombia, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, recovered paper imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Dominican Republic (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Guatemala (X tons), with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Dominican Republic (-3.2% per year) and Guatemala (+21.5% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of recovered paper to Colombia, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Dominican Republic ($X), with an 8.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Dominican Republic (+1.7% per year) and Peru (+44.3% per year).

In 2022, the average recovered paper import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while the price for El Salvador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
