Spinach Market Size in Colombia

In 2022, the Colombian spinach market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, the total consumption indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 3,093% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Canada (X kg) was the main destination for spinach exports from Colombia, with a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, spinach exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Panama (X kg), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Curacao (X kg), with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada amounted to -20.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (-14.8% per year) and Curacao (-28.9% per year).

It was followed by Curacao, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Canada totaled -19.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (-13.3% per year) and Curacao (-28.5% per year).

In 2022, the average spinach export price amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 67% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Panama (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2017, the amount of spinach imported into Colombia skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 200% compared with the year before. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2017, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spinach imports surged to $X in 2017. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2017, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2017, China (X tons) constituted the largest spinach supplier to Colombia, with a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, spinach imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Panama (X kg), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2017, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Panama (+4.1% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (+0.5% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of spinach to Colombia, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Panama ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2017, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +17.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Panama (-5.3% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (-0.6% per year).

In 2017, the average spinach import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -7.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 4%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2017, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2017, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
