Athletic Footwear Market Size in Colombia

The Colombian athletic footwear market reduced markedly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -19.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X pairs in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, athletic footwear exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 322%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Costa Rica (X pairs), Venezuela (X pairs) and the Dominican Republic (X pairs) were the main destinations of athletic footwear exports from Colombia, together accounting for 53% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +46.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bolivia ($X), Chile ($X) and Costa Rica ($X) constituted the largest markets for athletic footwear exported from Colombia worldwide, together accounting for 38% of total exports. The United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Jordan, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Ecuador lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

Among the main countries of destination, Honduras, with a CAGR of +41.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average athletic footwear export price stood at $X per pair in 2022, which is down by -15.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 50%. The export price peaked at $X per pair in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per pair), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bolivia (+15.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X pairs of athletic footwear were imported into Colombia; falling by -20.8% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X pairs in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, athletic footwear imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a notable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 71% against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per pair), while the price for China ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
