The UK (X tons) was the main destination for tapioca and substitutes exports from Colombia, with a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, tapioca and substitutes exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), fourfold. Aruba (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the UK stood at -13.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-10.2% per year) and Aruba (+4.7% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) remains the key foreign market for tapioca and substitutes exports from Colombia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Mexico, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the UK amounted to -11.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-6.7% per year) and Mexico (+14.6% per year).

Imports into Colombia
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of tapioca and substitutes increased by 42% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 532% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest tapioca and substitutes supplier to Colombia, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, tapioca and substitutes imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Thailand (X tons), with a 4.4% share.
