As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Panama (X kg) was the main destination for vanilla exports from Colombia, accounting for a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, vanilla exports to Panama exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X kg), fivefold. France (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.
From 2017 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume to Panama stood at -23.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (0.0% per year) and France (-20.0% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for vanilla exports from Colombia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Panama ($X), with a 28% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 7.1% share.
From 2017 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (-55.8% per year) and France (-79.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2018, the average vanilla export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the last one years, it increased at an average annual rate of +11.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Greenland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2017 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Panama (-42.0%).

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of vanilla, when their volume decreased by -34.1% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 214%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, vanilla imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 3,593%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest vanilla supplier to Colombia, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, vanilla imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X kg), threefold. France (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States stood at +33.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+43.8% per year) and France (+9.6% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vanilla to Colombia, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States stood at +71.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+62.3% per year) and France (+38.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average vanilla import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 3,868% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the price for Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+181.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
