Apricot Market Size in Costa Rica

France (X tons) was the main destination for apricot exports from Costa Rica, accounting for a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, apricot exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X kg), fourfold. Slovenia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to France amounted to -3.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (0.0% per year) and Slovenia (0.0% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for apricots exports from Costa Rica, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France totaled -7.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (0.0% per year) and Russia (+33.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average apricot export price amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+1.3%).

Apricot Imports

Imports into Costa Rica

In 2022, imports of apricots into Costa Rica fell modestly to X tons, shrinking by -4.9% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, apricot imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a dramatic contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 119%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Chile (X kg) constituted the largest apricot supplier to Costa Rica, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, apricot imports from Chile exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X kg), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Chile amounted to -21.8%.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constituted the largest supplier of apricots to Costa Rica, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 33% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Chile totaled -19.7%.

Import Prices by Country

The average apricot import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -12.3% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, apricot import price increased by +39.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Chile totaled $X per ton.
