Baby Carriage Market Size in Costa Rica

In 2022, the Costa Rican baby carriage market decreased by -3% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Costa Rica

In 2022, the amount of baby carriages exported from Costa Rica shrank dramatically to X units, which is down by -59% against the previous year. Overall, exports showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 661%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby carriage exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 706%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Nicaragua (X units), the United States (X units) and Guatemala (X units) were the main destinations of baby carriage exports from Costa Rica, together accounting for 78% of total exports. Panama, Mexico and Venezuela lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.5%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Venezuela (with a CAGR of +7.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for baby carriages exports from Costa Rica, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nicaragua ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States amounted to +36.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nicaragua (-6.7% per year) and Guatemala (-14.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average baby carriage export price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a buoyant expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jamaica (+160.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Costa Rica

In 2022, imports of baby carriages into Costa Rica was estimated at X units, remaining relatively unchanged against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby carriage imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest baby carriage supplier to Costa Rica, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, baby carriage imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X units), fivefold. Panama (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled -5.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-10.7% per year) and Panama (+1.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of baby carriages to Costa Rica, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Panama, with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled -6.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-4.4% per year) and Panama (+0.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average baby carriage import price amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -8.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
