Market Size for Optical Fibers and Bundles in Costa Rica

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 545% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Brazil (X kg), China (X kg) and the United States (X kg) were the main destinations of optical fiber and bundle exports from Costa Rica, together comprising 96% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +57.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Brazil ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest markets for optical fiber and bundle exported from Costa Rica worldwide, with a combined 98% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, China, with a CAGR of +36.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average optical fiber and bundle export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 38% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (-2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Costa Rica

In 2022, optical fiber and bundle imports into Costa Rica reduced rapidly to X tons, falling by -18.9% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 850% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, optical fiber and bundle imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 154% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest optical fiber and bundle supplier to Costa Rica, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber and bundle imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), fivefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+10.7% per year) and Germany (+92.2% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of optical fibers and bundles to Costa Rica, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States amounted to +21.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+80.8% per year) and India (+4.5% per year).

In 2022, the average optical fiber and bundle import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 179%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
