In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for polyvinyl chloride exports from Costa Rica, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Honduras ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +12.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Honduras (-11.7% per year) and Mexico (+6.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average polyvinyl chloride export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -13.7% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports into Costa Rica
In 2022, approx. X tons of polyvinyl chloride were imported into Costa Rica; approximately mirroring the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Moreover, polyvinyl chloride imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Colombia (X tons), more than tenfold. Mexico (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at +2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Colombia (+15.1% per year) and Mexico (-3.0% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polyvinyl chloride to Costa Rica, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 6.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 3.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States totaled +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Colombia (+16.1% per year) and Mexico (+1.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average polyvinyl chloride import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -17.1% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
