Powdered Milk Market Size in Cote d'Ivoire

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Cote d'Ivoire's powdered milk market, when its value decreased by -25.1% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, showed temperate growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, exports of powdered milk from Cote d'Ivoire surged to X tons, with an increase of 23% on 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 128%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, powdered milk exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 116% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Burkina Faso (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) were the main destinations of powdered milk exports from Cote d'Ivoire, with a combined 56% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +14.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for powdered milk exports from Cote d'Ivoire, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Liberia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Burkina Faso stood at +32.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (+8.7% per year) and Liberia (+12.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average powdered milk export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -14.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 42% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burkina Faso (+28.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Powdered Milk Imports

Imports into Cote d'Ivoire

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of powdered milk decreased by -24.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, powdered milk imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 99.9% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then plummeted in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of powdered milk imports to Cote d'Ivoire, together accounting for 65% of total imports. Ireland, Argentina, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +46.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), New Zealand ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest powdered milk suppliers to Cote d'Ivoire, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Ireland, Argentina, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +34.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average powdered milk import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
