The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -5.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 49% against the previous year. Plastic household articles production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Cote d'Ivoire

In 2022, the amount of household articles and toilet articles of plastics exported from Cote d'Ivoire skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 351% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic household articles exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Burkina Faso (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from Cote d'Ivoire, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic household articles exports to Burkina Faso exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mali (X tons), twofold. Liberia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Burkina Faso was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mali (+2.5% per year) and Liberia (+36.2% per year).

In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X), Mali ($X) and Liberia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for plastic household articles exported from Cote d'Ivoire worldwide, with a combined 83% share of total exports.

Liberia, with a CAGR of +20.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Imports into Cote d'Ivoire

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -47.4% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 170%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 277% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic household articles to Cote d'Ivoire, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household articles imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ghana (X tons), threefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +24.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+54.3% per year) and Italy (+12.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household articles and toilet articles of plastics to Cote d'Ivoire, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +20.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+17.5% per year) and Ghana (+63.9% per year).

In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 40%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
