Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Burkina Faso (X tons), Liberia (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) were the main destinations of onion and shallot exports from Cote d'Ivoire, together comprising 83% of total exports. Mali lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 15%.

Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burkina Faso (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Onion And Shallot Imports
Imports into Cote d'Ivoire
After eight years of growth, supplies from abroad of onions and shallots decreased by -9.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 31%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, onion and shallot imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 92%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of onion and shallot to Cote d'Ivoire, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, onion and shallot imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Burkina Faso (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Morocco (X tons), with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +13.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Burkina Faso (+8.2% per year) and Morocco (+67.6% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of onions and shallots to Cote d'Ivoire, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands totaled +12.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Burkina Faso (+3.4% per year) and Morocco (+50.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average onion and shallot import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -15.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 49% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
