Sugary Soft Drink Market Size in Cote d'Ivoire

The Cote d'Ivoire's sugary soft drink market shrank to $X in 2022, declining by -10.7% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +13.6% against 2020 indices. Sugary soft drink consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of sugary soft drinks decreased by -0.8% to X litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 463% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X litres in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, sugary soft drink exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 462%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Burkina Faso (X litres) was the main destination for sugary soft drink exports from Cote d'Ivoire, with a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, sugary soft drink exports to Burkina Faso exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mali (X litres), threefold. France (X litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Burkina Faso totaled +21.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mali (+58.5% per year) and France (+21.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for sugary soft drink exported from Cote d'Ivoire were Burkina Faso ($X), Mali ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 84% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Mali, with a CAGR of +52.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sugary soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, rising by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Cote d'Ivoire

In 2022, supplies from abroad of sugary soft drinks decreased by -16% to X litres for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 232% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X litres in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, sugary soft drink imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 248% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany (X litres), Ghana (X litres) and France (X litres) were the main suppliers of sugary soft drink imports to Cote d'Ivoire, with a combined 59% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Ghana (with a CAGR of +89.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Ghana ($X) constituted the largest sugary soft drink suppliers to Cote d'Ivoire, with a combined 53% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Ghana, with a CAGR of +121.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sugary soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 15%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per litre), while the price for Bangladesh ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
