Exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Croatia expanded notably to X units in 2022, surging by 5.6% compared with the year before. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 116% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 82%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Switzerland (X units), Germany (X units) and Poland (X units) were the main destinations of exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Croatia, with a combined 76% share of total exports.

Imports into Croatia

For the fifth year in a row, Croatia recorded growth in overseas purchases of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers, which increased by 66% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate strong growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a resilient expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Serbia (X units) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container to Croatia, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Serbia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Denmark (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X units), with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Serbia amounted to +16.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+5.4% per year) and Germany (+16.4% per year).

In value terms, Serbia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Croatia, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Serbia amounted to +15.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+3.2% per year) and Germany (+14.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -11.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for Serbia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
