The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, animal fats exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 628%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Slovakia (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of animal fats exports from Croatia, with a combined 98% share of total exports.

In 2021, the amount of animal fats and oils imported into Croatia soared to X tons, jumping by 657% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 7,541% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Slovenia (X tons) constituted the largest animal fats supplier to Croatia, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, animal fats imports from Slovenia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X kg), ninefold. Spain (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.2% share.

In value terms, Slovenia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of animal fats and oils to Croatia, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Slovenia totaled +66.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+10.0% per year) and Italy (-7.6% per year).

The average animal fats import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -42.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price faced a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 249%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
