In value terms, antisera exports reduced sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed significant growth. Italy (X tons) was the main destination for antisera exports from Croatia, with a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, antisera exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Italy stood at +132.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+225.7% per year) and France (+178.8% per year).

In value terms, France ($X), Italy ($X) and the United States ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for antisera exported from Croatia worldwide, with a combined 50% share of total exports. Belgium, Germany, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Australia and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Belgium, with a CAGR of +224.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average antisera export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 146% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+15.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia

In 2021, purchases abroad of antisera and other blood fractions increased by 45% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 151%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, antisera imports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 172%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In 2021, Australia (X tons) constituted the largest antisera supplier to Croatia, accounting for a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, antisera imports from Australia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Australia amounted to +248.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+11.3% per year) and Belgium (+44.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest antisera suppliers to Croatia were Germany ($X), Hungary ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Australia, Slovenia, Austria, South Korea and China, which together accounted for a further 20%.

The average antisera import price stood at $X per kg in 2021, shrinking by -51.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per kg in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per kg), while the price for Australia ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
