After five years of growth, the Croatian plaster article market decreased by -6.3% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. For the sixth consecutive year, Croatia recorded growth in shipments abroad of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster, which increased by 32% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, plaster article exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a remarkable increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for plaster article exports from Croatia, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, plaster article exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Montenegro (X tons), with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hungary amounted to +96.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+9.9% per year) and Montenegro (+7.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for plaster article exported from Croatia were Hungary ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Montenegro ($X), together accounting for 85% of total exports. Serbia, Albania and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +198.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plaster article export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Albania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+26.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, purchases abroad of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster increased by 9.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -6.7% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 34%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plaster article imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Romania (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of plaster article imports to Croatia, together accounting for 59% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +86.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
