In 2021, shipments abroad of articles of zinc was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 164% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, articles of zinc exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 214%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of articles of zinc exports from Croatia, with a combined 78% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +100.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for articles of zinc exported from Croatia were Italy ($X), Belgium ($X) and Slovenia ($X), together comprising 70% of total exports.

Imports into Croatia

In 2021, imports of articles of zinc into Croatia soared to X tons, picking up by 16% on 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 25%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, articles of zinc imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of articles of zinc to Croatia, accounting for a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, articles of zinc imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Slovakia (X tons), with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to +3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-2.9% per year) and Slovakia (+1.3% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of articles of zinc to Croatia, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +6.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+2.4% per year) and France (+12.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average articles of zinc import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, articles of zinc import price increased by +18.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 49% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
