Overall, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 491% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sulphite wood pulp exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 430%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Bosnia and Herzegovina (X kg) was the main destination for sulphite wood pulp exports from Croatia, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphite wood pulp exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Serbia (X kg), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Bosnia and Herzegovina totaled -2.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (-11.4% per year) and Bulgaria (-40.0% per year).
In value terms, Serbia ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) constituted the largest markets for sulphite wood pulp exported from Croatia worldwide, with a combined 96% share of total exports.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a CAGR of +3.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average sulphite wood pulp export price amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+30.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia
In 2021, sulphite wood pulp imports into Croatia declined slightly to X tons, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -1.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sulphite wood pulp imports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -8.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of sulphite wood pulp imports to Croatia.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +18.4%).
In value terms, the largest sulphite wood pulp suppliers to Croatia were Germany ($X) and Austria ($X).
Austria, with a CAGR of +16.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
The average sulphite wood pulp import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 8.8%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Germany stood at $X per ton.
