Exports from Croatia
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride), when their volume decreased by -11% to X tons. In general, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 69%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, chlorides exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 45%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Slovenia (X tons) were the main destinations of chlorides exports from Croatia, together accounting for 92% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bosnia and Herzegovina (with a CAGR of +31.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for chlorides exported from Croatia were Slovenia ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Serbia ($X), with a combined 83% share of total exports. Montenegro lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 5.4%.
Montenegro, with a CAGR of +31.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average chlorides export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Montenegro (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Croatia
In 2021, the amount of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) imported into Croatia soared to X tons, with an increase of 45% on the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chlorides imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Austria (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides to Croatia, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovenia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Hungary (X tons), with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Austria amounted to +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+19.2% per year) and Hungary (+33.0% per year).
In value terms, Austria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) to Croatia, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovenia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Austria stood at +10.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+13.7% per year) and Italy (+4.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chlorides import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
