The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. In value terms, citric acid imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 115%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Slovenia (X tons) constituted the largest citric acid supplier to Croatia, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, citric acid imports from Slovenia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Poland (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovenia totaled +36.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (-2.2% per year) and Poland (+73.3% per year).
In value terms, Slovenia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of citric acid and its salts and esters to Croatia, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 9.9% share.
