After four years of growth, the Croatian market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres decreased by -1.3% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate significant growth. In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 358%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Slovenia (X kg) was the main destination for exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Croatia, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X kg), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovenia totaled -19.7%.

In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres exports from Croatia, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovenia ($X), with a 33% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled -25.4%.

In 2022, the average export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres amounted to $X per ton, growing by 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Croatia

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, when their volume decreased by -4.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 132%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres totaled $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Sri Lanka (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Croatia, together accounting for 98% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovenia (with a CAGR of +54.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Sri Lanka ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Croatia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovenia ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Sri Lanka totaled +47.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+42.4% per year) and Germany (+0.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
