For the fourth consecutive year, the Croatian dried or smoked fish market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -95.2% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption recorded a dramatic shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +65.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Albania (X tons) was the main destination for dried or smoked fish exports from Croatia, accounting for a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, dried or smoked fish exports to Albania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), fivefold.
