The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 717%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Slovenia (X tons) was the main destination for dry bean exports from Croatia, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, dry bean exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), sevenfold. Serbia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovenia amounted to +32.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+22.9% per year) and Serbia (+3.6% per year).

In value terms, Slovenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for beans (dry) exports from Croatia, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Serbia, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Slovenia stood at +30.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+26.5% per year) and Serbia (+14.9% per year).

In value terms, Canada ($X) constituted the largest supplier of beans (dry) to Croatia, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Canada amounted to +11.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+12.7% per year) and Argentina (+3.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average dry bean import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 19%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
