Germany (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of expanded clays exports from Croatia, together comprising 72% of total exports. Ukraine, France, the UK, Poland and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

In value terms, expanded clays imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 43%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Austria (X tons) constituted the largest expanded clays supplier to Croatia, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, expanded clays imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Hungary (X tons), with a 13% share.

In terms of the main suppliers, Serbia, with a CAGR of +102.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
