For the fourth consecutive year, the Croatian hedge shear market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 13% to $X in 2021. Overall, the total consumption indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +68.8% against 2014 indices. Hedge shear consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, approx. X tons of hedge shears and two-handed pruning shears were exported from Croatia; stabilizing at the year before. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 257%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hedge shear exports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 158%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Slovenia (X tons) was the main destination for hedge shear exports from Croatia, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, hedge shear exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X kg), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Montenegro (X kg), with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovenia amounted to +34.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+13.9% per year) and Montenegro (+73.9% per year).

In value terms, Slovenia ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Montenegro ($X) were the largest markets for hedge shear exported from Croatia worldwide, with a combined 91% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Montenegro, with a CAGR of +81.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. In 2021, approx. X tons of hedge shears and two-handed pruning shears were imported into Croatia; with an increase of 1.9% compared with 2020. Overall, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +31.2% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 36%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main suppliers of hedge shear imports to Croatia, together accounting for 78% of total imports. The Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Slovakia and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +67.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
