Chicken Egg Market Size in Croatia

In 2022, the Croatian chicken egg market increased by 4.5% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of chicken eggs decreased by -20.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 97% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chicken egg exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 114%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of chicken egg exports from Croatia, together comprising 84% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +373.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for chicken egg exported from Croatia were Hungary ($X), Austria ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 84% share of total exports.

In 2022, overseas purchases of chicken eggs increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Slovenia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of chicken egg imports to Croatia, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Slovakia, Albania, the Czech Republic, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +724.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest chicken egg suppliers to Croatia were Slovenia ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports. In 2022, the average chicken egg import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+46.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
