Exports from Croatia
In 2022, shipments abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics increased by 8.2% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw moderate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic household articles exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Slovenia (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and North Macedonia (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic household articles exports from Croatia, with a combined 56% share of total exports. Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +39.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Slovenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for household articles and toilet articles of plastics exports from Croatia, comprising 21% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Serbia, with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Slovenia totaled +8.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+35.2% per year) and Serbia (+11.2% per year).

The average plastic household articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -23.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 54%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia
In 2022, approx. X tons of household articles and toilet articles of plastics were imported into Croatia; declining by -47.9% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 96%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, plastic household articles imports fell notably to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic household articles imports to Croatia, together accounting for 47% of total imports. Poland, China, Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Austria, Turkey and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +32.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastic household articles suppliers to Croatia were Germany ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 48% of total imports. Serbia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania, Spain, Austria, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
Among the main suppliers, Romania, with a CAGR of +35.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plastic household articles import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 48% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
