In general, exports recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dental instruments exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 136%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Germany (X units) was the main destination for dental instruments exports from Croatia, accounting for a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, dental instruments exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Slovenia (X units), with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at +6.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+76.9% per year) and Slovenia (+45.0% per year).
In value terms, Slovenia ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X) were the largest markets for dental instruments exported from Croatia worldwide, with a combined 46% share of total exports. Spain, the Netherlands, China, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +65.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average dental instruments export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dental instruments export price increased by +25.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 64%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, purchases abroad of instruments for dental sciences decreased by -9.5% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dental instruments imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -3.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X units), Italy (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of dental instruments imports to Croatia, with a combined 67% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Poland and Austria, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +162.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of instruments for dental sciences to Croatia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovenia ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to +11.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+43.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+50.5% per year).

The average dental instruments import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 25% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per unit), while the price for Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
