In value terms, steel plaited band exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 381% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Slovenia (X tons) was the main destination for steel plaited band exports from Croatia, with a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, steel plaited band exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), fourfold. Albania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Slovenia totaled +25.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (-0.2% per year) and Albania (+91.3% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for steel plaited band exported from Croatia were Slovenia ($X), Albania ($X) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a combined 69% share of total exports. France, Austria, Montenegro, Guinea, North Macedonia and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

Steel plaited band imports into Croatia fell to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -7.9% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, steel plaited band imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -10.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of steel plaited band to Croatia, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, steel plaited band imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy stood at +5.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+13.2% per year) and the Netherlands (+10.1% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of iron or steel plaited bands and slings to Croatia, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy amounted to +4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+14.6% per year) and Germany (-4.1% per year).
