Laser Market Size in Croatia

In 2021, the Croatian laser market increased by 4.3% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption showed a slight slump. Laser consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of lasers, other than laser diodes exported from Croatia soared to X units, rising by 27% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 968% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, laser exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a notable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 430%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Slovenia (X units) was the main destination for laser exports from Croatia, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, laser exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Oman (X units), with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovenia amounted to +98.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (-1.3% per year) and Oman (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Slovenia ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Oman ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for laser exported from Croatia worldwide, with a combined 97% share of total exports.

Slovenia, with a CAGR of +120.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average laser export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -57.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 240% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+17.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of lasers, other than laser diodes decreased by -12.8% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 143% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, laser imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 179% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Ukraine (X units) and Slovenia (X units) were the main suppliers of laser imports to Croatia, together accounting for 65% of total imports. The Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Italy, Poland and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +73.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest supplier of laser to Croatia, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Ukraine was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+67.8% per year) and Slovenia (+38.3% per year).

The average laser import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 56% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed buoyant growth. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
