Malt Market Size in Croatia
The Croatian malt market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Malt Production in Croatia
In value terms, malt production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 22%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Croatia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of malt, when their volume decreased by -15.7% to X tons. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 93%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, malt exports rose to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for malt exports from Croatia, with a 40% share of total exports. Moreover, malt exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Angola (X tons), threefold. Albania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Turkey totaled +24.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Angola (+632.7% per year) and Albania (+0.2% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for malt exports from Croatia, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Albania, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey stood at +24.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Angola (+766.8% per year) and Albania (+0.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average malt export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, malt export price increased by +43.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Angola (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia
In 2022, overseas purchases of malt decreased by -17.7% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -26.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 59%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, malt imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -18.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main suppliers of malt imports to Croatia, with a combined 85% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +60.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Austria ($X), Hungary ($X) and Slovakia ($X) appeared to be the largest malt suppliers to Croatia, with a combined 81% share of total imports.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +56.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average malt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
