In 2021, overseas shipments of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates decreased by -10.9% to X kg, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 1,146%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 527% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X kg), Slovenia (X kg) and Serbia (X kg) were the main destinations of manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from Croatia.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovenia (with a CAGR of +26.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from Croatia, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovenia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

Imports into Croatia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates decreased by -41.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 111%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates to Croatia, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to -9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+13.0% per year) and the United States (+57.1% per year).

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates suppliers to Croatia, with a combined 73% share of total imports.

The United States, with a CAGR of +73.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average import price for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 53% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 107%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
