The Croatian market for meat of camels and other animals reduced modestly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a mild setback. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 327% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 293%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Slovenia (X tons) was the main destination for camel and other animal meat exports from Croatia, with a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Serbia (X tons), more than tenfold.

In value terms, Slovenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for meat of camels and other animals exports from Croatia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Serbia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

In 2022, the amount of meat of camels and other animals imported into Croatia fell to X tons, reducing by -5.1% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

Moreover, camel and other animal meat imports from Slovenia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), threefold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovenia stood at +8.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+30.2% per year) and Belgium (+35.2% per year).

In value terms, Slovenia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat of camels and other animals to Croatia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Slovenia stood at +10.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+34.8% per year) and Hungary (+29.5% per year).
