In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Croatian men swimwear market, when its value decreased by -32.5% to $X. In 2021, the amount of men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) exported from Croatia surged to X units, increasing by 76% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 4,762% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, men swimwear exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 4,350% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X units) was the main destination for men swimwear exports from Croatia, with a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, men swimwear exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X units), fivefold. Portugal (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Italy stood at +77.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+128.2% per year) and Portugal (-1.1% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) exports from Croatia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy stood at +70.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+112.2% per year) and Portugal (+0.2% per year).

In 2021, the average men swimwear export price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 8.8%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,711%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, men swimwear imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,191% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Ethiopia (X units) constituted the largest men swimwear supplier to Croatia, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, men swimwear imports from Ethiopia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X units), twofold. Spain (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Ethiopia totaled +92.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+38.5% per year) and Spain (+52.2% per year).

In value terms, Ethiopia ($X), Italy ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the largest men swimwear suppliers to Croatia, with a combined 74% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +98.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average men swimwear import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per unit), while the price for Ethiopia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
