The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 522%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 786% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Austria (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat flour exports from Croatia, together accounting for 57% of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovenia, Germany, Sweden and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 38%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +234.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Austria ($X), Germany ($X) and Slovenia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for non-wheat flour exported from Croatia worldwide, with a combined 74% share of total exports.
Germany, with a CAGR of +259.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-wheat flours increased by 2.4% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 99% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Austria (X tons) constituted the largest non-wheat flour supplier to Croatia, with a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, non-wheat flour imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. Slovenia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Austria amounted to +4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+11.0% per year) and Slovenia (+22.5% per year).
In value terms, the largest non-wheat flour suppliers to Croatia were Austria ($X), Germany ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 82% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Italy, which together accounted for a further 16%.
Among the main suppliers, Slovenia, with a CAGR of +14.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-wheat flour import price amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-wheat flour import price increased by +94.7% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
