In value terms, plastic container exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 430%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

France (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic container exports from Croatia, with a combined 54% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +554.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of plastic containers decreased by -2.3% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic container imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Italy (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic container imports to Croatia, with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Romania, France and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +39.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
