Over the period under review, exports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 153% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spectacle plastic frame exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X units) was the main destination for spectacle plastic frame exports from Croatia, with a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, spectacle plastic frame exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovenia (X units), threefold. Albania (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bosnia and Herzegovina stood at +75.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovenia (+61.5% per year) and Albania (+9.5% per year).

In value terms, Slovenia ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest markets for spectacle plastic frame exported from Croatia worldwide, together comprising 81% of total exports.

Slovenia, with a CAGR of +75.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spectacle plastic frame imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Italy (X units) constituted the largest spectacle plastic frame supplier to Croatia, with a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, spectacle plastic frame imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Austria (X units), with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy totaled +19.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-19.9% per year) and Austria (+85.8% per year).

Over the period under review, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, spectacle plastic frame import price increased by +28.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
