Shaving Preparations Market Size in Croatia

After two years of decline, the Croatian shaving preparations market increased by 3.8% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shaving preparations production dropped remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 13% against the previous year. Exports from Croatia

For the third consecutive year, Croatia recorded decline in overseas shipments of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks), which decreased by -10.4% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 155%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, shaving preparations exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -26.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 184% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of shaving preparations exports from Croatia, with a combined 72% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Serbia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania and North Macedonia, which together accounted for a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +85.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), Slovenia ($X) and Hungary ($X) constituted the largest markets for shaving preparations exported from Croatia worldwide, together accounting for 67% of total exports.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +111.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average shaving preparations export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 36%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shaving preparations imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of shaving preparations imports to Croatia, with a combined 64% share of total imports. Hungary, Slovenia, France, Romania, Italy and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +335.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest shaving preparations suppliers to Croatia were the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Slovakia ($X), with a combined 56% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, France, Romania and the UK, which together accounted for a further 39%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Romania, with a CAGR of +284.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average shaving preparations import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 25%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
