For the fifth year in a row, Croatia recorded growth in overseas shipments of prefabricated buildings, which increased by 24% to X units in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, prefabricated buildings exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 48%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Germany (X units), Poland (X units) and Austria (X units) were the main destinations of prefabricated buildings exports from Croatia, together comprising 65% of total exports. Hungary, the UK, France, Switzerland, Estonia, Romania, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +81.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest markets for prefabricated buildings exported from Croatia worldwide, with a combined 58% share of total exports.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +100.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average prefabricated buildings export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -13.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia
In 2022, purchases abroad of prefabricated buildings decreased by -59.2% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 151% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, prefabricated buildings imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
Bosnia and Herzegovina (X units), Italy (X units) and Slovenia (X units) were the main suppliers of prefabricated buildings imports to Croatia, together comprising 71% of total imports. Serbia, Austria, Turkey, Germany and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +62.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Slovenia ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest prefabricated buildings suppliers to Croatia, together comprising 74% of total imports. Austria, Germany, Serbia, Turkey and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +66.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average prefabricated buildings import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 27%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per unit), while the price for Serbia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
