Slovenia (X tons) was the main destination for roasted coffee substitutes exports from Croatia, with a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, roasted coffee substitutes exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovenia amounted to -1.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (-0.3% per year) and Serbia (+9.7% per year).
In value terms, Slovenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes exports from Croatia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Slovenia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+2.8% per year) and Serbia (+9.8% per year).

The average roasted coffee substitutes export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -5.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia
After two years of growth, overseas purchases of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes decreased by -38.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 141% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 166%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest roasted coffee substitutes supplier to Croatia, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, roasted coffee substitutes imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), sixfold. Hungary (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland stood at +20.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+21.1% per year) and Hungary (+11.7% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes to Croatia, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 3.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 1.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland totaled +34.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+9.6% per year) and Germany (-14.4% per year).

In 2021, the average roasted coffee substitutes import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 52% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
