For the fourth year in a row, Croatia recorded growth in overseas shipments of sacks and bags of paper, which increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, paper bag exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Hungary (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of paper bag exports from Croatia, with a combined 58% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Serbia and France, which together accounted for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +114.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imports of sacks and bags of paper into Croatia rose sharply to X tons, picking up by 8.2% against 2020 figures. In general, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 20%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Italy (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) were the main suppliers of paper bag imports to Croatia, with a combined 49% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, the Czech Republic and China, which together accounted for a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +36.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average paper bag import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight decline. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
